Estoril MotoGP

Estoril is one of the fairly new tracks to the Motogp scene. The first ever Motogp race was held there in 2000, it has become so popular amongst the riders and spectators alike that it attracts thousands of fans from all over the world.

The circuit itself is pretty challenging for the riders with plenty of bumpy straights, tight corners which require heavy braking in parts and a very tricky chicane to negotiate. All this makes for very exciting viewing for the fans, and maybe a little tense for the riders, although they must relish the challenge of getting round the circuit with their leathers still intact, and a podium finish if possible.

Estoril circuit was infact built in 1972 and was mainly used for other motorsport racing, with many famous racing drivers such as Nigel Mansell. Ayrton Senna, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher to name but a few honouring the circuit with their presence.

Unfortunately for three years, from 1975 the circuit fell into a bad state of disrepair, but after a few years of major redevelopment the track was back in business and opened up again in 1984, although it was still a few more years before Motogp actually took off.
