Mugello MotoGP
The Mugello Circuit, in Italy, is the home land of the championship leader
Valentino Rossi. Rossiis hoping to extend his lead on Jorge Lorenzo and
Dani Pedrosa. James Toseland, the new member to the Moto GP, is getting
more comfortable with the Tech 3 Yamaha but is still having to learn all
of the new tracks. Jorge Lorenzo is still suffering from injuries sustained
in previous races and Casey Stoner who had his eyes set for a place in
the top 3 of the World Championship.
Only 3 points separate Rossi from Jorge
and Pedrosa in the World Championship and although struggling with the
Ducati, Casey Stoner is not far behind.
Rossi started off the first row of the grid in pole position with Pedrosa and Capirossi right behind him. The injured Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo sat behind Nicky Hayden who is in 6th position on the grid, with Colin Edwards right in front of him. Team-mate of Edwards, James Toseland began in the middle of the third row, and was hoping to move up a few places in the World Championship.
The race began with a good start from Pedrosa and Rossi fell back from 1st to 4th. Rossi gained 1 place within the first few corners and Dani Pedrosa leads with Stoner and Rossi close on his tail.
Rossi over took Pedrosa shortly after he was over-taken by Stoner, but close behind the top 3 is Suzuki rider Loris Capirossi. Rossi eventually sneaked past Stoner and took the lead.
James Toseland, slowly moved up the track and moved from 11th to 7th place. Unfortunately, Honda and Ducati riders De Puniet and Melandri tangled with each other, which forced them out of the race. Sadly, De Puniet's fall had presented him with an injury to the hand.
Next to fall out of the race Kawasaki no. 21 John Hopkins and Jorge Lorenzo
followed shortly after.
Although pulling away from the rest of the herd the battle between Pedrosa and Stoner was not over yet and the battle for 4th was just under-way.
To finish the race was the 46 Italian Valentino Rossi who has made this another consecutive win in Mugello, Italy and is followed over the line by Stoner in 2nd and Pedrosa in 3rd. James Toseland landed himself a position right behind team-mate Colin Edwards who finished in 5th.
