Sachsenring MotoGP

The Sachsenring racing circuit began its life some eighty or so years ago, back in 1927, although back then it wasn`t know as Sachsenring but rather, Hohenstein-Ernstthal. It was in 1937 that Sachsenring finally got it`s more well known name.

The early days of the races were not very successful as there were a few too many injuries, infact there were even some fatalities. So the life of the Hohenstein-Ernstthal was quite short lived, it wasn`t until sometime later in around 1934 that the race organisers felt perhaps it was time enough to give it all another go.

This decision was met with some trepidation from outside, but the organisers pushed ahead regardless.

A decision that proved to be the right one, and the Sachsenring became more and more popular with the European Grand Prix being held for a couple of years after 1937.

For various reasons 1973 saw the end of racing as we knew it at Sachsenring, and it wasn`t until 1998 that the circuit hosted another Grand Prix. After some major improvements of course, cars and motorcycles are both able to use the track. The old track hasn`t completely gone, some of the old course still remains today but the safety standards have been improved immensely. There is a fantastic race control centre, and a brand new state of the art tower at the start/finish, not to mention the pit lane facilities. Its no surprise then that the crowds still come to cheer on their heroes and teams.
